If you’ve been trying to conceive without success, artificial insemination may be one of the most accessible and affordable fertility treatments available to you — and you don’t have to travel overseas to get it. At Hazba Medical Center in Falmouth, Trelawny, we provide intrauterine insemination (IUI) right here, with consultation, lab work, ultrasound, and the procedure itself all under one roof. Book your fertility consultation today.

What is Artificial Insemination?
Artificial insemination (AI) — most commonly performed as intrauterine insemination (IUI) — is a fertility treatment in which prepared sperm is placed directly into a woman’s uterus around the time of ovulation. By giving sperm a head start past the cervix, IUI shortens the distance to the egg and improves the chance of conception. It is simpler, gentler, and far more affordable than IVF, and for many couples it is the right first treatment to try.
Hazba Medical Center is one of the few private clinics offering this treatment in Jamaica.
Who Should Consider Artificial Insemination?
IUI may be a good option for:
• Couples who have been trying to conceive for a year or more
• Unexplained infertility
• Mild male-factor infertility (low count or motility)
• Cervical-factor infertility, where sperm struggle to pass the cervix
• Ovulation difficulties, including PCOS
• Single women or couples using donor sperm
Important: blocked fallopian tubes are one of the most common causes of infertility and if a blocked tube is the obstacle, IUI may not be the right first step. The good news is that we also treat blocked tubes here, with a minimally invasive procedure that can restore your natural chance of conceiving: Learn about Fallopian Tube Recanalization →
The Artificial Insemination Process

Here’s what to expect when you come to us, step by step.
1. Your first consultation
You’ll start by booking a fertility consultation. Bring any previous test results. We’ll review your history, understand your situation, and confirm whether IUI is right for you or whether another approach would serve you better.
2. Initial testing
Most of the testing happens right here in our office, so you’re not running between facilities. Depending on your situation, this may include an ultrasound, blood work, an ECG, a urine test, and a Pap smear, along with a sperm analysis for your partner. In some cases the doctor may also recommend a small endometrial (womb) sample, this is not needed for everyone, and your doctor will explain whether it applies to you.
Approximate testing costs (JMD / USD — confirm current figures):
Test | JMD | USD (approx.) |
Blood work | $25,000 | ~$160 |
Ultrasound | $13,500 | ~$80 |
ECG | $6,000 | ~$35 |
Urine test | $3,500 | ~$20 |
Pap smear | $6,000 | ~$38 |
Sperm wash & analysis | $35,000 | ~$225 |
Endometrial sample (only if needed) | $100,000 | ~$640 |
A couple of tests — a hysterosalpingogram and an abdominal/pelvic ultrasound — may be done at an outside facility where required.
3. Preparing for the procedure
Your doctor will guide you on how to prepare and on healthy habits that support the process. We’ll either work with your natural ovulation cycle or, where appropriate, help induce ovulation to time the procedure precisely.
4. The procedure and after
The insemination itself takes only a few minutes and feels similar to a Pap smear, with no anesthesia. Afterward, we’ll follow up over the coming weeks to check for pregnancy. If a cycle isn’t successful, many couples try again — success often comes over several cycles rather than the first. And when it works, you can continue your care with our antenatal clinic right through your pregnancy.
Cost and Accessibility of Artificial Insemination in Jamaica

One of the biggest advantages of IUI at Hazba is affordability especially compared to fertility treatment abroad, where a single IUI cycle in the US often runs many times higher. Our pricing (confirm current figures):
• Initial consultation: $10,000 JMD (~$64 USD)
• IUI procedure: $250,000JMD (~$1,600 USD)
• Payment plan available: for couples who can’t manage the full cost upfront — ask us about spreading payment.
Your doctor will explain all costs clearly before anything begins — no surprises.

Artificial Insemination Success Rates and Statistics
It helps to have realistic expectations. Based on general fertility research (e.g. the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and WHO guidance):
• Roughly 15–20% success per cycle for many patients
• Cumulative success rises over several cycles most successful pregnancies occur within the first 3–6 cycles
• Success is generally higher in women under 35
Note: these are general ranges, not a promise your individual chances depend on your age, diagnosis, and other factors, which your doctor will discuss with you honestly. See factors affecting IUI success→
IVF vs Artificial Insemination (IUI)

Understanding your options:
Artificial Insemination (IUI) | IVF |
Less invasive | More involved process |
Lower cost ($250,000 JMD) | Higher cost ($2.5million JMD) |
Simpler procedure | More controlled process |
Fertilization happens naturally in the body | Fertilization happens in the lab |
Often the right first step | Higher success rates per cycle |
For many couples, IUI is the sensible first treatment to try. If it isn’t successful or isn’t suitable, your doctor can discuss next steps, including referral for IVF where clinically indicated.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does artificial insemination cost in Jamaica?
At Hazba Medical Center, the IUI procedure ranges from $250,000JMD (approximately $1,600) depending on your individual needs and monitoring, plus an initial consultation and testing. A payment plan is available. This is typically a fraction of what a single IUI cycle costs in the US.
What factors affect success rates?
The main factors are the woman’s age (success is generally higher under 35), the underlying cause of infertility, ovulation timing, and sperm quality. Your doctor will assess these during your consultation and testing, and give you an honest picture of your individual chances.
How many cycles should we try?
Most successful IUI pregnancies happen within the first 3–6 cycles, so many couples try several cycles before deciding on next steps. Your doctor will review your progress with you and discuss whether to continue with IUI or consider other options, including IVF, if needed.
Do I need a referral to start?
No referral is needed. You can book a fertility consultation directly with us — it’s the first step, and it’s where your doctor confirms whether IUI is right for you.
